Joy Proposal Story: Kevin & Jacqueline

by Cali Pitchel

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

While my fiancee was away on a Mission Trip to Tanzania, I was able to speak with her parents to notify them of our future plans and to seek their blessing, as I was to propose upon her return.

Joy to us means embracing, engaging and empowering each other daily.

After she returned home, I had already scheduled a weekend hike, so we proceeded to the hike on an early Saturday morning with my sister there to “capture” the event. Overlooking the Shenandoah Valley, I went old school, got down on one knee and played “Not a Bad Thing” by Justin Timberlake, while I did the deed! As soon as I played the song, her immediate response was “Are you serious?!?” followed by a resounding YES! We embraced and enjoyed the moment and have been “engaged” in more ways than one ever since.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Having already booked and paid for our honeymoon! We will be spending nearly two weeks in Catania, Sicily and Valletta, Malta.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We are intentional in staying thoughtful and considerate of each other and our families’ plans, as this is the first wedding for both. We have consulted with family and friends who have experienced this already, and value their insights. Being proactive as opposed to reactive, has served us best not only in wedding planning, but in our relationship overall!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Joy to us means embracing, engaging and empowering each other daily. We are not overly “romantic” in some respects, but we are intentional and mindful of each other’s passions and personalities. Each day will bring new adversities but that also means it brings new opportunities to create and experience life together. We find JOY in the journey!
