Joy Proposal Story: Kristen & Alex

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We got engaged on June 14, 2018. My birthday was a couple days before and Alex told me he had planned for us to go out to celebrate it. I was honestly a little confused as to why he didn’t plan it on my actual birthday but figured he had bought tickets to show or something scheduled that evening. When it came time for him to pick me up he said we had to run back to his apartment to grab something (he lived down the street). He invited me in only for me to see that he had turned the entire downstairs of his apartment into a miniature photo gallery. He removed all of the furniture, put up pipe and drape, hung string lights, and hung photos of us that we had taken throughout our time dating. I was shocked. I moved through the gallery in what felt like ultra slow motion. At the end of the gallery, there was a note and some flowers. Once I had finished reading the note, I turned around to look at Alex, down on one knee!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Doing our registry! It’s so fun to shop with Alex for our future home! It reminds me that we’re not just planning for our wedding day, we’re planning for a life together!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I journal a lot! It helps me keep my thoughts clear and put things into perspective. Also, talking to my girlfriends helps when I’m feeling really stressed.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The guest list! It’s nice to have everything in one place!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I would start building and using your website from the beginning of your engagement. Don’t wait!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Our wedding day, while it is so special, it is just one day in comparison to the hundreds of days we will spend as husband and wife. This thought helps us shift our perspective when we are feeling particularly stuck or overwhelmed by decisions. Instead of getting frustrated, we allow ourselves to remember that we are working towards committing to each other for forever. The joy of being together forever will outlast one day of celebration.
