Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Kyle proposed on our annual trip to Point Sebago on Sebago Lake in Casco, ME. We’ve been going there for years with a group of our closest friends. Point Sebago is a glorified campaign resort filled with beach days, golf, happy hour and time on the lake… this year it had a little more in store. We had talked about Sebago being a nice place to get married someday. Sunday, Kyle said that he had spoken to the wedding coordinators and had set up a tour of an off-resort venue that a lot of couples use for their ceremony.

On Monday, August 8th, we drove over to Hacker’s Hill Preserve to “meet the wedding planner.” Hacker’s Hill is a wilderness reserve that offers an amazing 360 degree view of the lake and the White Mountains. Kyle suggested that since we were 15 minutes early, we might as well walk around to check out the area before the planner arrived.

“… and when I turned around, he was down on one knee.”

As we walked around Kyle pointed out a small alter that sits on one side of the preserve overlooking the water. As I stood under the alter looking out at the lake Kyle said, “Amanda, we’re not here to meet a wedding planner.” … and when I turned around, he was down on one knee. We went out for a quick celebratory drink which was also to buy me some time to calm down (I was too nervous to go back and see everyone)!

Little did I know, this was not the last surprise of the day. I had always said that I wouldn’t want to get engaged while away on vacation because I would want to be able to celebrate with my family and friends. With this in mind, Kyle had rented a cabin for my parents and two siblings and when we returned they were all there waiting for us.

One of the annual traditions at Point Sebago is competing for an “I Won It” t-shirt awarded to anyone who wins one of the many games throughout the week. This year I didn’t have to win an event to get mine. Kyle had looked into the design for the 2016 shirt and he made us both replicas that replaced “I Won It” with “She Said Yes,” which we both wore while celebrating with our friends and everyone else we’ve come to know and love up at Point Sebago.
