Joy Proposal Story: Leticia & John

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We had a trip planned for Friday the 13th (one of my favorite days of the year!) that I actually don’t remember booking. It had only been six months since we met so I wasn’t expecting a proposal at all. We were headed to Seascape Resort in Aptos, CA from Sacramento. I kept saying how the day couldn’t get any better and he laughed every time. Once we got to the resort we checked in, went to eat pizza and have a drink at the hotel bar. We then went down to the water with our fire pit and snacks. I brought up listening to music and he told me to put five of my favorite songs on, when it got to “Holding the Other” by Lauren Alaina, he suggested we dance on the beach next to the fire. (Which he never does, he doesn’t really like to dance) so it threw me off but I was super happy about it. While we were dancing he was telling me how much he loved me and about a minute into the song he dropped down on one knee. At first, I thought it was a great Friday the 13th prank, but he was serious. He told me what he loved about me and how happy he was to have me in his and his kids’ lives, then he asked me to marry him. I was so shocked I almost fell over into the fire! I asked him if he was serious about five times and then finally said, “Yes!” I called my mom and my best friends right away. The rest of the night and the next day I kept asking if he was sure or wanted to take it back. Just to make sure it is really what he wanted! It was a crazy couple of days!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Engagement photos for both of us. My mom came and made sure we had great pictures. The photographer was so much fun and it wasn’t stressful at all!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Alcohol! Just kidding. I don’t stay sane planning our wedding, but the Bridechilla podcast has helped a lot and using Joy for our website helps because it is so easy to use.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is super user-friendly and has a mix of what we both want!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Go at your own pace, but get it completely done before you send anyone the website link.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

We will be able to show people our site long after we are married. The pictures people take and share will always be there, our kids will even be able to see it! I am pretty excited about that. The joy of being married to the person you love and trust with all your heart is what lasts forever. A wedding is one day but a marriage lasts a lifetime if you are one of the lucky ones! It takes work to continue to build a strong, happy relationship. If you always take time for one another and think of each other when making decisions, that will help you stay together and happy forever.
