Joy Proposal Story: Mallory & Michael

by Allie Grampa

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

We went on a trip to Disneyland (my favorite place in the world) with some of our closest friends and their 2-year old daughter in March 2016, which happened to be over our one-year anniversary on March 2nd. The first day we were in the park, March 1st, I kept getting texts from friends saying “I hope you got your nails done” and “he better propose!”, and when I showed the texts to our girlfriend she did a good job at convincing me it wasn’t happening.

Who you are in life, what you do for a living, who you surround yourself with – if none of that brings you joy then why keep it? You are the creator of your own joy by the actions you take every day.

The following day started as any proposal story typically does…me being annoyed with my boyfriend for some minuscule reason! Me being the Disney fanatic that I am, I had a plan of attack for the day already sorted out in my mind and everyone else was trying to do something else, which annoyed me. I was adamant we had to start our day in California Adventure and they said we had to start on “It’s A Small World” in Disneyland. Finally I gave in and we pranced over to Disneyland.

As we were walking down Main Street USA, we spotted the “Partners” statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse, and since it was a stunning day and barely anyone was in the park at that point, Michael suggested we stop for photos. Who I am to deny some quality Disney Park photos?! So we waited in line for the professional photographer and finally it was our turn.

The photographer took us through a bunch of different, classic poses but then Michael caught him by surprise by getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him! I was shocked (though had always been hopeful still) and couldn’t get the words out…all I could do was nod my head “yes”. He even took it one step further and had shirts for us that read “My favorite Disney prince/princess is my fiancé”. My dream proposal came true!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Being a wedding planner by profession, it’s been an interesting journey planning our wedding. My favorite experience so far has been seeing my fiancé get excited about random things, like hiring an espresso cart.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Luckily I’m used to this, so I don’t feel like I’m under too much pressure. BUT, when I do, I just text my cousin who is one of my bridesmaids and also a wedding planner and she usually straightens me out.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?
