Joy Proposal Story: Megan & Justin

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

I suspected it was coming because he literally told me, “I talked to your parents and told them I was going to propose to you.” I wasn’t sure when or how he’d do it, though! That weekend, we were camping at our favorite spot in Anza Borrego, Font’s Point. The trip got off to a rough start when not one, but both of us forgot our lighters and couldn’t cook any food. Justin got so hangry that we had to drive 30 minutes to the nearest Mexican restaurant to eat. We bought a lighter at the gas station and drove back up Font’s Point to do some stargazing and astrophotography. It started to get cold, so I told Justin that I wanted to get back to the fire and he said, “One more picture.” That was the exposure that caught the proposal. In typical Justin fashion, he hadn’t planned a speech or anything. He said, “Want to get married? Also, don’t move because there’s a 15-second exposure” I was so happy! We went back to the fire and Justin had packed some surprise champagne. We were so excited that I didn’t even notice the sleeve of my jacket caught fire! The next day we spent hours calling our family and friends to tell them the news, and we went to Julian to get breakfast apple pie.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Cupcake tasting! Serious food coma afterward.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We’re both graduating, starting new jobs, and moving. Wedding planning is the fun stuff! At least there’s food tasting involved!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

We enjoyed setting up the bridesmaids’ and groomsmen’s’ profiles. It was a good opportunity to be silly and to also make fun of ourselves.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Have fun with it and make it your own!
