Joy Proposal Story: Michelle & Chris

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

A year after beginning to date, being the sentimental sort, Chris invited Michelle to hike to the summit of Fairview Mountain, the one and the same they had hiked at the start of their relationship, to celebrate their anniversary. Michelle agreed when Chris suggested taking a sunrise hike, as she enjoys new and challenging adventures. When they reached the summit, after hastily scarfing down breakfast in the sub-zero temperatures with a lackluster view due to overcast skies and smoke, Chris asked Michelle to sit down for a moment before hurrying back down the mountain to read a card he had brought with him. Before she had the chance to do so, Chris in his excitement had already gotten down on one knee to ask her to marry him! Of course, Michelle said, “Yes!” They celebrated with champagne that Chris had secretly lugged all the way up the mountain with him, and then raced back down to share the news with their families.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

That’s a tough one! Most of the planning has fallen on (me) Michelle, as I have both the desire and time to spend on it, whereas Chris works long hours. I’m quite detail oriented, so planning most of the details have been fairly enjoyable! That could be anything from creating our website to researching accommodations, addressing save the dates, or finding bargains on decor. I truly love most of it!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Honestly, I have found it quite manageable so far. It’s been a slow season at work, so I’ve been lucky enough to use the extra time on my hands to throw myself into planning. I’d say I’m way ahead of the game compared to the average bride/groom. There have been a few moments when Chris and I felt very pressured to make some big decisions quickly, and it was definitely a stressful time. We just kept in mind that once those decisions were out of the way, we’d be able to relax again and slowly plod along on the rest of the details!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is very user-friendly. There are administrators who are available via chat and will typically answer very quickly! They’re friendly and helpful, we would never have imagined that from a free service. It’s been a ‘Joy’ to use!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Definitely, use the Joy admins if you’re struggling, they are wonderful!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

We live apart, so after the wedding when we move in together, it really will be the start of our lives together as partners! The wedding is just a celebration. The real joy comes in the years we’ll be able to spend growing, loving and supporting each other.
