Joy Proposal Story: Rachel & Taylor

Joy Proposal Story: Rachel & Taylor

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

It began just like any other Friday. It was October 12, 2018 (my parent’s wedding anniversary nonetheless) and I was on my way home from work expecting to come home to an empty house since Taylor was scheduled to work the late shift that evening. Little did I know, he was anxiously awaiting my arrival at home, while the calendar event for his shift that night was simply to throw me off!

Our home is loft-style, so the main living space is upstairs. I walked in the front door, hung up my coat and thought to myself, “Why were the lights left on today?” I turned to walk up the stairs and as soon as I reached the first landing, I saw it… candles everywhere marking my way up the stairs and into the living room. All of a sudden, our special song filled the room and I saw my handsome man standing in the middle of our living room beaming at me! This next part was a blur to me, as I was completely caught off guard and so many wonderful, beautiful and powerful feelings were surging through my being. After a beautiful monologue about the life and love we’ve built together, he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. Both in tears, I cried, “Yes, oh my god, yes!” and for the first time, I got to embrace this amazing man as his fiancee. It was so perfect, so intimate, and so thoughtful that Taylor proposed without a crowd and in the beautiful home that we bought and have worked tirelessly to build together.

Later that night, he took me back to where it all began. Our very first date back in January 2014, Taylor took me to Julio’s Barrio on Whyte Avenue. I can remember it like it was yesterday. On this special night, we returned to Julio’s and sat in the exact same location where we shared our first meal and our first laughs together. I wouldn’t have it any other way! He knows me so well.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

While a wedding may be temporary, joy is powerful and deep. It’s not just happiness, its elation! Love is not always joyful, but love gives you the promise that you will be joyful once again, even in the lowest moments. I see the same promise of joy in a loving marriage.
