How did the two of you meet?
We met in a songwriting class at our local college.
How long have you been together?
A little over two years!
“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” -Psalms 30:5
Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
We had just spent the last week camping in the Big Basin Redwoods after Christmas and were on our way home when we stopped at one of our favorite spots along the coast, Morro Bay. We had been there once before over the 4th of July holiday and it was a complete ghost town! It was only us, the sunset, and some sea otters- it’s been a special place for us ever since. We stopped there on our way home (Dec. 30) and I was completely oblivious because I was 4 days overdue for a shower with no makeup on and dirt under my nails. As we were watching the otters swim with their babies, Joel was hugging me and telling me how much he loves me and I’m just thinking, “I love you too, but these otters right now, babe!” and BOOM! he got down on one knee and I completely blacked out. That is a true thing that happens ladies, so be prepared! Luckily Joel had a go-pro recording the whole thing; people clapped, we didn’t drop the ring through the dock, it was awesomesauce! We had already conveniently planned a New Years party the next day, so we were able to celebrate with friends and family.
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
Spending so much time with my family and friends. I live in southern California, but my family and some of my close friends still live in the bay area. I don’t get to see them much, so it’s been amazing planning and sharing all these memories with them. One of my best friends has two kids so we’d only talk once in awhile, but it was one of those “you pick up where you left off” type of friendships. Since the engagement, I talk to her on the phone every day! Just being able to do that has made any ounce of stress worth it.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
What’s sanity?! Really though, it’s probably coffee and to-do lists. I write down the things I need to get done that day or week and just focus on that.
What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
The user-friendly style and sleek designs. It’s been so easy making the site and it’s just the right amount of wedding with not too much “bride”!
Read the help section. If you don’t know how something works, your guests won’t either. It’s like any other site, you have to work a little bit to make it function the way you want it!
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” -Psalms 30:5
