Joy Proposal Story: Sarah & Paul

Joy Proposal Story: Sarah & Paul

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We were on a snowboarding holiday and it was the second day of our trip. It was a beautiful day, great snow conditions and the sun was shining. We had been hitting some beautiful red runs all morning and found one particular run that we both enjoyed. We had stopped for lunch and decided to go back to that run for another go. Paul set off before me, ensuring his GoPro was on and ready to go. I got stuck behind a snowboard lesson which gave Paul a chance to get prepared. By the time I caught up, I only just spotted him at the side of the mountain and made my way over. He was showing me something that he had ‘found in the snow’. Me being completely oblivious, I said, “Okay, do you want me to put it in my bag?” But he was insistent, wanting me to come to look, I turned around and there he was on one knee in the snow, asking me to marry him. I was in complete shock, it took a good five minutes for the shock to pass and for me to say, “Yes!” We laughed, cried, talked for a good hour on the side of the mountain and not a soul came past us. It was just the two of us looking down at the most amazing view of the mountains with the sun shining, taking it all in. It was perfect, I always wanted it to be a surprise and did not have any inkling that it was going to happen! (After 10 years, people are constantly asking) He did it perfectly.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Falling in love with the venue, saying “yes” to the dress, and getting Pauls suit made in Bangkok! This was very exciting since I work with apparel, I was having a great time picking the fabric, styling, etc!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I love planning! I’m very organized and love having spreadsheets for everything. We are also doing our first project house at the same time, which is slightly stressful, but we just ensure we have fun with everything we do and laugh our way through it! The wedding planning I don’t find stressful at all, maybe I’ll change my mind closer to the big day.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I tailored my invite to follow the same theme on our website so everything looks in sync. Also, we love having a one-stop shop to be able to tell our guests all the information needed!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Start using Joy early and editing bit by bit. Things will change over time, but at least you will be familiar using the tools of the website!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I’m marrying my best friend and can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives making more memories together! We’ve been together for over 10 years and have already done so much, we’ve seen the world together, we’ve grown together. Joy is being with the people who make you laugh, who bring out the best in you. Life should be enjoyed. It’s easy to get caught up in day to day stress, but try to enjoy every day, laugh every day, and show love every day. That’s how we try and live our lives.
