Steffanie and Amit first met at a Halloween party of a mutual friend of ours. They were each in relationships at the time, but when they saw each other about a year later, they were both single. They started chatting. Amit asked Steffanie if she remembered him. The answer: No—too many drinks. Nonetheless, they hit it off, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
We were having a house party on March 26th at Amit’s house. He then tricked Steff’s friends into making her go upstairs and giving them a tour of the house while everyone downstairs were given rose petals, in on the surprise. Steff then came downstairs to set up for the party and, being the nicest host, she settled everyone in. Amit then called her over to the table to announce the house party rules, at least that’s what Steff thought.
We will close our last chapters of our own books on April 29, 2017, but that is also on that same day that we start our book together.
As Amit started talking he announced, “Thank you everyone for coming tonight, and I especially wanted to thank my girlfriend Steffanie for being such an amazing support system and being there for me through thick and thin”. Steffanie then interrupted Amit and said “Oh no problem babe I love you too”.
Amit then continued to give his speech about how great Steffanie is, all along Steff was oblivious to it. Amit then say’s in Vietnamese “Can I have your hand in marriage”, he also says in Hindi as well. This is when Steffanie starts to realize what is happening. She starts to tear up. Amit goes on to say “Don’t start crying or else I will too!” He then gets on knee and proposes in English. “Will you marry me?” She then says yes! Everyone throws rose petals at us. Then the night goes on in celebration.
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
Steffanie loves the decor aspect and Amit likes trying to find a DJ.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
Amit likes to keep sane by playing Pokemon GO. It gives him a chance to go on walks and to parks that he may not have ever gone to before. It also helps him stay calm: his mom passed away in September and planning all this is hard. Her last wish was the wedding to happen on the same date so things have been stressful to plan on short notice. Steffaine keeps sane by spending time with her family and two little dogs.
What was your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?
Our favorite part is the quick response time we have questions about with the website and how simple the organization of it.
What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
Start early, try to make the website one of the first things you do, the website then becomes the focal point for your planning.
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?
Joy means happiness, we as humans want to be happy all the time. Amit has found his found his joy in Steffanie. She is the one who has saved me from my own inner darkness. She was there when I NEEDED someone. She means the world to me. I am happy I have found someone like Steffaine to marry. We will close our last chapters of our own books on 4/29/17 but that is also on that same day that we start OUR books together. I hope her marrying me will bring her joy.
