Joy Proposal Story: Thomas & Naomi

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met in London, United Kingdom through Tinder in 2014. Thomas is from Canada and was in London for a couple of weeks for work, while I am from the Philippines and just recently moved to London a couple of months before we met. You can say that both of us felt lonely in a beautiful place, that’s why we decided to try finding love online. The first date went so well that we had to go on a second date the very next day. Then, Thomas had to fly back to Toronto the following day. However, this was not the end of our story as we continued seeing each other with countless trips between London and Toronto.
A wedding is an important milestone that creates wonderful memories.

How long have you been together?

We’ve been together for 2 years and 10 months – we count it from the very first day we met!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We went to Paris to celebrate our second anniversary. On our first day in Paris, we’ve decided to go up the Eiffel Tower. However, due to tight security measures in Paris at the time, all bags have to be inspected and scanned twice before going up the Eiffel Tower. Thomas was really anxious because the security officers would open his bag and I might see the ring he’s been hiding and ruin the surprise! So, Thomas told me that he does not want to go up the Eiffel Tower anymore. He wanted to go to the other side instead so he can get a full shot of the Tower. I didn’t really care at that time since I have been to Paris before and was busy playing a game on my phone. Once we found a good spot, Thomas asked me to stand up and do a welcome to Paris video with him. He set-up the 360 degrees camera then as he approached me, he knelt and asked me the big question. I said “Yes!”

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

The ‘I beg to agree to disagree’ moments – choosing the vendors, DIY decor, having no budget at all, working out together to get fit for the wedding… the list is still going on!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We have to remind ourselves that at the end of the day, the end game of this wedding is to celebrate our marriage with our family and friends. We have been in a long distance relationship for more than 2 years which was really tough, and there is nothing happier than planning to be together for the rest of our lives.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The designs are very elegant. We get a lot of compliments from our family and friends when they saw our wedding website. They said that our website design truly reflects our personalities.
