Joy Proposal Story: Jaime & Maria

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met during college at Millersville University during our freshman year. A mutual friend introduced us early on and we remained great friends until he ask me asked out during our sophomore year where we became best friends!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

About a month or so before the proposal, I was watching old family home videos and remembered how much fun my siblings and I had. I told Jaime that I wanted a video camera for Christmas so that I could continue filming special memories for our kids to see and so that they could make fun videos of their own one day. Fast forward to Thanksgiving night, we went to my Aunt’s house where she has a HUGE party every year with about 5-7 turkeys. My family stopped to say a family prayer before we ate and right after, my dad called me up. I was confused as to why, but soon found out when he told me to turn around and I saw Jaime on one knee! I was so happy and shocked that little did I know, Jaime had the whole proposal filmed with a video camera that he gifted to me as an early Christmas present. Jaime proposing in front of our families is the first memory of ours to be filmed on our video camera, and it couldn’t be more perfect!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We are planning the wedding together and it’s fun to spend time, laugh and anticipate all the fun that we are going to have on our big day! We try to enjoy every second because it goes by so fast!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

When we’re feeling motivated we do as much as we can, because when we feel overwhelmed, we definitely like to take a break from the planning. It’s good to go out and play mini golf or see a movie to get our minds off planning sometimes. During planning, we try to enjoy it and laugh a lot about everything which makes planning fun!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

We had a last minute reception location change, so it is nice to be able to easily change the location and send an email to guests informing them of such. We enjoyed writing our love story as well 🙂

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Joy is so helpful! I wish I put our website and code on our actual invitations. We printed a separate piece of paper and included it in the envelope, but we’re afraid some people didn’t see it. So definitely put you’re personalized link and code in a visible spot for guests, because the site is amazing!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

That our wedding day is a sneak peek of how fun and cherished married life will be with each other “for as long as we both shall live.” 🙂
