Joy Proposal Story: Moriah & Zac

by Cali Pitchel

Moriah and Zac grew up together in Uptown, a neighborhood in the inner city of Chicago. They’ve been best friends since they were 14, but because Moriah wasn’t allowed to date until she turned 18, Zac would have to wait four long years to make things official. Zac is currently finishing up college in Kentucky, while Moriah is attending college in Illinois. It’s been long distance ever since they started dating, but that hasn’t deterred them from building a future together.

Even though this party is something we are taking much time to plan, the covenant we will be making and the imprint the day will leave on our marriage will last for the rest of our lives.

Give us the details! Who? What? When? Where?

Zac proposed on the 23rd of June in 2016 at a nature preserve near our neighborhood and totally took me by surprise. It was the first time we ever said “I love you” and also our first kiss. He had set up a picnic in the forest with a meat, cheese, and cracker platter. Afterwards, he took me out to dinner and then to a movie. It was perfect.

What’s been your favorite part of wedding planning?

My favorite part of planning our wedding was when Zac, his cousin (a groomsman), and I went out shopping at thrift and consignment stores all over Chicago to find clothing items for the big day. The day before, Zac and I were downtown looking for his suit and found absolutely nothing. This thrift day, though, we found the exact suit we were dreaming of at Elliot Consignment for only $150! Nothing beats thrifting!

How do you stay sane during wedding planning?

Having a lot of support from my family, friends, church community, and my faith. Also, structure and organization are key.

What’s your favorite part of using Joy to plan your wedding?

My favorite part of using Joy to plan our wedding is the layout of the website on both computer and mobile format, as well as the fact that it is super user friendly.

What advice do you have for other couples using Joy to plan their wedding?

Don’t try to get all of the website done in one sitting or one day. When new things come up or ideas pop into your head, open it up and update the site, take time to perfect it before inviting anyone to view it and rsvp.

At Joy we believe that although a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does this mean to you?

Even though this party is something we are taking much time to plan, the covenant we will be making and the imprint the day will leave on our marriage will last for the rest of our lives.
